Spring Showcase 2021

a note from erin

My beautiful singers,

What even happened this year?!?!? This has been the craziest, saddest/most empowering and transformative year. I guess every year is like this (ish), but the dichotomies of this year are more prevalent than most.

You have all missed out on so much - milestones and connections and new friends and musicals and proms and summer programs and school visits and school trips and awards and travel and generally seeing the world NOT through a screen, and I can't even imagine what this has been like for you. For adults, this is a blip in our lives. A giant, painful blip, but a blip nonetheless. For you? This is your developmental life, and I want you to know that I see you.

Personally, I have learned that I have much less patience with a screen than I ever could have imagined. Some days I just want to jump out of my skin - I am so tired of them.  I am, however, infinitely grateful for Zoom and FaceTime. I have discovered that the connections we make with each other through the act of music making is unbreakable, even when we don't see each other in person. I am constantly amazed at the progress you are all making, and am delighted at the humor and love and vulnerability that is possible even though we are separated by miles and glass and electrodes.

We have all chosen to keep music at the forefront of our lives amidst the chaos that has been this year. Loving intent has kept us all intact.  I'm grateful for screens (they kept me in business!),  but mostly because they kept me connected to you.

Thank you for making music with me this year. I hope it has been a balm for you as it has been for me.

Much love,

Erin

Arin Francis

Natalie Graves

Jimmy Cyganek

As a senior in the time of Covid-19, Arin has gotten used to the cancelled, zoom-modified, and distanced milestones. Though disappointing, seeing everyone around her work so tirelessly to maintain these traditions despite the obstacles has made Arin even more grateful for what we do have. Arin is so excited to share these two songs with you as she feels they epitomize her journey in theatre. The first is idyllic, wide-eyed, but alludes to feeling like a distant, unobtainable fairy tale, while the second is resolute, determined, and grounded in self-worth. Anyone in theatre can attest that the audition process is grueling, and success can be elusive, but over her four years working with Erin, Arin has learned how hard work can truly pay off. Arin is so excited to continue her journey at the University of Michigan as she obtains her BFA in musical theatre. Arin is so grateful to Erin for showing all that she could accomplish and pushing her towards her goals. Last but certainly not least, Arin wants to thank her family for supporting her endlessly throughout all her theatre endeavors over the years and constantly cheering her on
