How Voice Lessons WOrk

Middle and High -School Students

Voice lessons are most effective when taken weekly. Once accepted into the studio, school-aged students are assigned a weekly time which reoccurs throughout the school year.

Lessons are either 45 minutes or an hour, based on your goals, and are structured (ish) like this:

45 MINUTE LESSON

15-20 minutes: Vocalization exercises designed just for you. These are meant to free and strengthen the voice.

20 -25 minutes: Song work: preparing songs for performance. This includes technique, interpretation, and acting.

HOUR LESSON

15 minutes: Musicianship! This could be sight-singing, ear training, theory, etc.

15-20 minutes Vocalization exercises designed just for you. These are meant to free and strengthen the voice.

20 -25 minutes: Song work: preparing songs for performance. This includes technique, interpretation, and acting.

  • Two recitals/school year.
  • Studio classes.
  • Sunday Workshop Series.
  • Sheet music.
  • Audition, competition, and recital prep.
  • Access to competitions.
  • All the work it takes to manage a thriving studio: scheduling, researching, planning, preparing students for competitions, auditions and recitals, as well as the ever-important act of educating myself through professional development.
  •  Maintenance of websites, which are a wealth of information and organization for your student.
  • A teacher who is actively learning and up to date on current voice technology, methodology, and pedagogy.
  • A teacher who spends countless non-teaching hours working for the betterment of young voices in the Atlanta area.
  • A teacher who serves the music community by actively participating in NATS, GMEA, and The Speakeasy Cooperative. All of these things directly affect the type of lesson you receive every week.
  • A teacher who serves the music community by founding a The Performing Arts Conservatory of Atlanta, a nonprofit which provides scholarships for students in need.
  • A teacher who actively engages local voice community by founding The Voice Alliance, a small group of elite voice teachers, singers, SLPs and Voice Therapists dedicated to supporting one another and nurturing young voices, and the Atlanta Voice Community Facebook Group.
  • A teacher who, like you, sings because she can't help herself.
